LOCAL FLAVORS Locals know some of the best dining north of Boston can be found in downtown Haverhill. Keon's Bistro, declared 2008 Restaurant of the Year by the Retailers Association of Massachusetts, is one of the many exceptional restaurants that call Haverhill home. In-the-know foodies are frequently found digging into everything from the latest in nouvelle cuisine to giant, juicy burgers. Almost all of Haverhill's most popular restaurants are within easy walking distance of Hamel Mill Lofts.

YOU MADE NEW Need a hiarcut? How about a day at a martini-serving spa? Downtown Haverhill offers a fascinating blend of trend-setting boutiques and decades-old fixtures. Most are owned by people who live in and around the Queen Slipper city. As a result, even the simplest errand is an opportunity to connect with the community.

NOW BOARDING Regular commuter trains make this small city an ideal exurb for those who work to live. Haverhill offers all the interest and appeal of city living but without the big time prices. Weekend playgrounds including New Hampshire's beaches are just a short drive away. All of Greater Boston's high-tech, medical and industrial hubs are an easy commute, too.

POURING HISTORY The Tap, one of Haverhill's favorite local hangouts, uses wooden shoe lasts as tap handles. Whether you're in the mood for an upscale dinner for two or the relaxed, casual camaraderie of a brew pub, you won't have to walk far to find it. From martini and wine bars to local breweries, there are always plenty of options from which to choose.

RIVER POWER The nearby Merrimack River once played a critical role in the leather industry. The Merrimack River, a lead character in Henry David Thoreau's writings, flows alongside Haverhill on its way to Newburyport and the Atlantic Ocean. Boaters enjoy its wide flow and several pairs of Bald Eagles now nest high in the trees along its banks.

MOON WALK Evening light signals the start of Haverhill's lively night scene. Fresh from work, fellow citizens lean into bar side conversations in a local pub while down the street, a waiter in a long white apron carefully explains the chef's special to a stylish couple out for a romantic evening a deux. If you don't have plans let Haverhill's nightlife make them for you

GO ANYWHERE Located about 35 miles north of Boston, Haverhill offers easy access to all points near and far. In Haverhill, you get the best of both worlds - small city living on a first-name basis and easy on-off access to Massachusetts' Northeast Corridor train and highway systems. You can meet friends in the Hamel Mill Lofts Cyber Cafe, in one of Haverhill's local eateries or head for the beaches or ski slopes of New Hampshire.

LOOK THIS WAY Local boutiques carry an eclectic mix of up and coming designers and the tried and true. Fashionable shopping in Haverhill? Really? Really! Downtown boutiques and shops have become a North Shore must for independent dressers looking for those "Where did you get that?" finds.

TALENT SHOW The work of local artists can be found in Haverhill's Wingate Arts District. Located around the corner from Hamel Mill Lofts, it's a great place to shop for gifts and one-of-a-kind treasures. There's also a tapas and martini bistro in case you build up an appetite, and a thirst after shopping.

STYLE POINTS Score a fashion win at a local vintage clothing and accessories shop. Who needs the vintage shops of Newbury Street and Harvard Square when you can discover equally rare finds in downtown Haverhill? When you've shopped all you can, take a load off your feet and admire (gloat over) your purchases while enjoying lunch or an afternoon snack at a bistro or pub.

PAPER TRAIL The original site plan of the Hamel Mill dates back to the first quarter of the 19th Century. Built from 1911 to 1916, the Hamel Mill occupied a significant footprint in Haverhill's thriving leather district. Renovated in 2008 following eco-friendly guidelines, residents appreciate the fact that we pay extra attention to our impact on the environment.

BUY LOCAL Brew masters at the Haverhill Brewery and Tap Restaurant take great pride in their craft. History repeats itself with tasteful gusto! An 1897 photograph shows a large Lager Beer, Ale & Liguor sign proudly displayed on the same building that now houses Haverhill's own micro-brewery.
